The fairies put this young boy to sleep
He drifted right down
Through waters so deep

He woke to find his body had gills
Just like a real fish
Amphibious babe

A cool, clear water-world
Of shells creatures and pearls

He’d left the land that once was his home
To follow a life
So wet and alone

He swam along the great salmons back
And ventured with hope
To find the right track

To ‘Shiny Wall’ and through the white gate
To ‘Peacepool’
And mother Carey’s haven

So far down to the sea
Of eels, lobsters and whales

The other end of nowhere he’d go
By hook or by crook
He’d get there quite soon

For seven days and for seven nights
He plundered on out
In search for these sights

Sea serpents and all kinds of strange beasts
A bogeyman with great claws
And huge teeth

He crashed into each wave
And fought hard to be brave

His task would soon be done and complete
And home he would go
To his own land world

He rubbed his eyes in sheer disbelief
His feet were now down
On soil, grass and leaf

The air was filled with song, sweet and light
A ladies high voice
That beckoned him “come!”

He ran near to her side
The joy he could not hide

Tom flew into Miss Ellie’s soft arms
And held her so close
